Panthers Finish Strong at CVC Districts

Nine Panthers punched their tickets to the State Wrestling Tournament by placing in the top three at the CVC District Championships this past weekend. Senior Sean Soliz closed out a four year winning streak at Dick Branaugh Court by defeating the #1 ranked Blake Borsberry 12-7. Sean led from start to finish and pushed the pace on last year's runner up at 135. Winning his 2nd CVC title at 103 was Sophomore Ryan Haney. Haney was joined by fellow Sophomore David Peebles as a District Champion who was very aggressive from start to finish. Peebles spent much of the year as a 2nd string wrestler and surprised the State when he had a strong showing at the Reser Tournament of Champions where he downed a string of ranked wrestlers. In the 119 lbs final, fellow Panthers Levi Brinkley and Chance Lindquist faced off against one another. Lindquist edged out Brinkley 9-8 in a match that had both wrestlers scoring multiple reverses and back points. Senior Nick Coles finished a dominating tournament performance by winning the championship at 130 lbs. Redmond's last finalist was 215 pound Senior Duel Christiansen who fell to the number one seed Wes Heredia with a last minute takedown. Overall, the Panthers qualified nine wrestlers for the state tournament. Including the seven finalists, Colby Fultz and Nathan Herber were able to navigate the consolation bracket to finish 3rd to secure the final berth to Portland. Falling in the consolation finals at 103 lbs was Freshman Brandon Short. Short was joined as a placer by fellow Freshman Ty George who placed 5th at 112 lbs. Sophomore Austin Alvarez also placed at the district tournament finishing 6th at 140 lbs.
